1st place for sustainability: Dr. Schumacher receives the German Packaging Award for an innovative cooperation on recyclate use in wet wipe packaging.
Malsfeld – In cooperation with two partner companies, Dr. Schumacher GmbH took 1st place in the German Packaging Award in the sustainability category. Presented annually by the German Packaging Institute, the award honours the most innovative product ideas and solutions in the packaging industry. This year, a 27-member expert jury selected 41 winners from almost 250 entries from 13 countries. The evaluation took place across industries and materials in ten different categories.
The importance of sustainable packaging
The Dr. Schumacher GmbH team applied together with two supplier partners with the wet all-purpose wipes “Clean Up” with 30% PCR film. The award-winning packaging consists of recycling shares from reprocessed beverage packaging. These are reprocessed to such an extent that they can be used again as R-LDPE in flexible packaging. The new packaging thus meets the highest requirements for functionality and protection of the packaged products without compromising environmental compatibility or hygiene. Recyclability and recyclate use of packaging materials played a major role. Creating and using the technical prerequisites so that all components could ultimately be processed into a successful finished product was also an essential factor in this development.

Packaging solutions such as this conserve resources in the long term while reducing packaging waste at the same time. The cycle of resource use is thus further optimised. By using the forward-looking and sustainable materials applied here, Dr. Schumacher continues to minimise its ecological footprint and makes a significant contribution to reducing environmental impact. Promoting responsible consumption: The development of sustainable packaging solutions supports the importance of environmentally friendly products. Dr. Schumacher has also set itself the goal of promoting more responsible consumption with its products while ensuring effective hygiene. Winning the German Packaging Award 2024 confirms the hygiene specialist’s outstanding commitment and high standards for sustainable production innovations. A team effort for a healthy environment: This project clearly underlines the successful interdisciplinary cooperation of individual working groups – both within the company and across companies. With this new development, the winning team demonstrates the importance of sustainability in the company and in society.
